Can your home internet host your own VPN?

Run this 2-minute check from your home internet connection. It tests the things that actually matter for a home IP VPN, explains each result in plain language, and tells you exactly what to do next.

Everything runs in your browser. We do not store your IP address or your results.

1

Measure your home internet upload speed

Upload speed matters more than download speed here. Your home internet connection uploads everything to you while you travel, so this number decides how smooth things feel abroad.

Common questions

Do I need fast internet at home for this to work?

Upload speed is what counts, not download. Around 10 Mbps upload or more feels smooth for remote work abroad. Between 5 and 10 Mbps is workable for one person. Below 5 Mbps, video calls through the VPN may struggle, and we would talk through your options on a consultation.

What is CGNAT and why does this tool check for it?

Some internet providers share one public address between many homes. This is called carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT). It can block an incoming VPN connection because your home is not directly reachable from the internet. It is fixable, and setting up the workaround is part of what we do in a setup consultation.

Will this work if my home IP address changes?

Yes. Most home connections get a new address from time to time. The setup includes automatic updating, so your devices abroad always find their way home without you touching anything.

Do I need to buy new equipment?

Usually not. Most people already own something that can run the VPN server, like a compatible router or a small computer. A compact travel router is a popular option for travelers. If you are unsure, we will tell you exactly what fits during the consultation.

What happens in the $79 consultation?

A remote session where we review your connection, confirm your home setup will work, and configure your home IP VPN with you. The $79 is credited toward the $379 full setup if you continue.
